My students in cycle 2 & 3 had a lot of difficulty in independently using a French/English dictionary for the first few weeks. I quickly noticed tha I needed to help them see that using a dictionary is not as complicated as many thought it was, aswell as show them how useful they truly are!
I created this lesson to help them and found that it was successful. After this lesson students were more comfortable with using the French/English dictionaries. Still, in class I would often offer students who could find me a definition or translation quickly a small reward to have the students continue to see dictionaries are a gift and not simply as extra work.
