Kindergarten - Farm Unit

For the last field trip of the year at Vaudrin Academy, the entire school was heading down to visit La Ferme André! With this said, I thought it would be the perfect time to teach the students all there is to know about farming!

We began our farm unit by discussing food farms (fruit and vegetable farms, rice farms, coffee farms, etc).

We learned all about why it is so important to wash our hands before consuming any food with this gross yet interesting experiment. The students loved it!

We then talked about our favourite fruits and made these adorable signs to show the rest of the school what our favourite fruits were. I had the students pose with their hands wide open and pretend they were looking at their favourite fruit.

Their faces are to die for!

We concluded our food farm study by

juicing with some yummy apples!

We compared freshly pressed Spartan juice

to McIntosh juice made from both apples

and the students prefered the McIntosh.

In the end we discussed how like our

favourite fruit activity, their are a variety

of difference apple types for different

preferences.

In class we then learned about animal farming!

Unlike food farming, students already knew a lot about animal farms in general.

So, we learned songs, watched some videos and made art about their favourite farm animals. The students particularly loved cows, chicks and the classroom favourite was the horse!

After all the hard work, it was such a blast to see all the students feeding and playing with the animals at the farm!

The teachers even got carried away and started a mud fight between the staff. We then tried to convince the students to return home with some muddy war stripes on their cheeks like us!

Most did so we all agreed that the day was a true success!
